PPB Section

PPB Section Chair Welcome Letter

Welcome to the PPB Section web page.

As the 2008-2009 PPB Section Chair, I encourage all members of AAPS to use our Section as a resource, and to consider joining the Section as a Member if your career interests involve physical pharmacy, biopharmaceutics, and drug delivery. The AAPS PPB Section is comprised of members from diverse backgrounds in industry, academia, and government who share a common interest in the field of drug discovery, preformulation, oral absorption, and drug delivery. The PPB section was formed from the recent AAPS PDD and PT Section strategic visioning.

The AAPS PPB Section aspires to make AAPS the premier global organization for scientists involved in physicochemical and biopharmaceutical characterization and delivery of small molecules and biologics. We provide a dynamic international forum for the open interchange, discussion and dissemination of emerging scientific developments, technologies, and regulatory knowledge regarding the principles and practices of physical pharmacy and biopharmaceutics. We promote the continued growth and development of the sciences underpinning physicochemical and biopharmaceutic characterization of small molecules and biologics, pharmaceutical excipients and adjuvants, drug candidate selection, drug transport and absorption, preformulation, and biopharmaceutic data guiding the formulation and drug delivery strategies. We foster pharmaceutical education, career growth, and professional development of the section membership. Finally, we actively collaborate with and supporting other AAPS sections, focus groups, and international professional/scientific organizations.

This is your Section; Section leadership exists to coordinate resources so that we can best meet your needs. The 2008/2009 PPB Section Executive Committee welcomes your participation and input. Please consider the many ways you can influence our efforts through active participation as a volunteer. If you would like to discuss the Section or ways you would like to be involved, contact AAPS or a member of our Section's executive committee (provided on this Website).

I have been honored to be the chair of this section. I will endeavor to do honor to serve the PPB section with the finest traditions of the AAPS organization. I look forward to working with each and every one of you in 2008/2009.

Thanks,

Lawrence X. Yu
2008/2009 PPB Section Chair

Physical Pharmacy and Biopharmaceutics

The Physical Pharmacy and Biopharmaceutics (PPB) Section is composed of AAPS members whose scientific interests are in the physicochemical and biological factors that impact the design and delivery of small molecules and biologics. PPB is a multidisciplinary section that focuses on preformulation, biopharmaceutics, drug absorption, nanotechnology, and drug delivery systems design and performance including targeted drug delivery. PPB provides an interactive forum for the exchange of information pertaining to the selection of developable drug candidates at the drug discovery-development interface, characterization of drug substance and excipients, studies of relationships between drugs' physicochemical and biopharmaceutical properties and physiological considerations at the cellular, organ, and whole animal levels, and overcoming drug absorption and delivery barriers via drug delivery technologies.
