Dr Roger J. Pomerantz, received his BA in Biochemistry at Johns Hopkins University and his M.D. at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He received his internal medicine training and his subspecialty training in infectious diseases and virology at the Massachusetts General Hospital of the Harvard Medical School. His post-doctoral training in molecular retrovirology was obtained at Harvard Medical School and the Whitehead Institute at M.I.T. He is board certified in both internal medicine and infectious diseases. Dr. Pomerantz was an endowed, tenured Professor of Medicine, Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, and the Director and Chair of the Institute for Human Virology and Biodefenses at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia (1990-2005). Dr. Pomerantz has published nearly 300 articles in the scientific literature, concentrating on molecular HIV pathogenesis. He has served as a member and chair of the Antiviral Advisory Panel for the F.D.A., and on numerous N.I.H. panels and committees.

Dr. Pomerantz joined Johnson and Johnson in the summer of 2005 as President of Tibotec, the Virology and Infectious Diseases company of Johnson & Johnson, and as the Global Therapeutic Area Head of Virology.

Since Dr. Pomerantz joined Tibotec, the company has launched Prezista (darunavir) the first true second generation anti-HIV protease inhibitor and has completed collaboration agreements with Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to co-develop and market VX950, potentially the initial anti-HCV protease inhibitor, and with Medivir, Inc. to co-develop anti-HIV, HCV and HBV inhibitors.
